How do you see God?Do you ever sit and wonder about things? And are there some things that you can’t find the answer to? Emily is a little girl who wonders a lot. At night before she goes to sleep, she will always think about something. It is one of those nights when Emily has brushed her teeth, combed her hair, got into her pajamas and is tucked in bed.Her mummy always reads her a story before bed time and tonight it is about God. Emily knows that God loves her and that he will always listen to her, but she begins to wonder how we see God. “What if I want to see him in person?” Emily thinks out loud to herself. Looking out the window Emily can see the night sky. God lives in the sky she thinks, if only I could get there, then maybe I will see him. Birds fly ever so high. Emily called to a bird asleep in a tree. “Take me to see God, because I want to speak to him.” The bird agrees and soon Emily is flying through the air up, up as high as the clouds. And further they climb. Soon as they are nearing the stars, the bird gets tired and not being able to go any further he lightly places her on a star of silver, and flies away to earth. “Star of silver,” says Emily, “have you seen God, because I want to speak to him.”The star turns and sees this small child. “I saw Jesus many years ago, born in a stable, I watched him grow, I watched him work, I saw him change people and I watched him die, but I have never seen God.” “Fly me up as high as you can so I might try to see him,” she begged. So the star flew as high as he could until he too was tired and he dropped her on the rings of a planet many thousands of miles away. “O Miss planet, have you seen God? Because I really want to speak to him.” The planet spoke softly and gently as to not frighten the little girl. ”I have been here since the world began, I have seen many things, I know that God made me but I have never seen him.” As the planet spoke, Emily found herself growing tired, her eyes shut and she slowly drifted off to sleep. The planet lifted her slowly and put her on a ray of light. Emily floated back down to earth and into her bedroom where she slept. The next morning she woke up and looked out of her window. She saw the flowers, the trees and the bird who had taken her. She saw the sun and the grass and all that is beautiful. At the bottom of the garden their dog is playing with a ball. Emily’s mother and father come in and she tells them all about her adventure, but also how she is sad that she hasn’t seen God, (because she really needed to speak to him.) “Look outside,” says her daddy,” God made everything you see, when you look at it you can see God and remember how wonderful he is.” “But how do I speak with him?” she asks. “We speak with him when we pray, you don’t have to leave your room, just talk to God he will hear.” All that day Emily is happy and now she talks to God, anytime, anywhere and she knows he is always listening. |
