John the Baptist

John is a fiery teacher and he goes around speaking of a Messiah who will come to save the world. He is also called ‘the Baptiser’ people come to him at the river, he takes them in and he dunkes them under the water. He says that if you clean the outside of your body in this way then God will help clean up the inside.

If you want to know more about what John said then you can look it up in your bible, just read Luke chapter 3 verses 1 to 20. John wore clothes made of camel hair which itched like mad, he also ate honey with locusts. What do you think of that?

To find out how John dies, read Mark chapter 6 verses 14 to 29.

Did you know?

John’s father couldn’t speak for months before he was born because he wouldn’t believe he could have a son. When he gave him his name he had to write it down so that everyone would know what to call him. It was only then that he could speak again.

The law for jewish boys

Jewish boys have to learn the law when they are five, at thirteen years old they have to know it all and are expected to follow it.

Think about rules. Do you think the rules in your life are fair and easy to follow? What rules do you think Jesus would want us to follow?

Jesus' friends

Simon Peter, he’s the leader of the gang.

Andrew, is his brother.

James and John are the sons of thunder.

Phillip.

Bartholomew.

Thomas, doubts his Lord.

Mattew, was a tax collector.

James.

Thaddaeus.

Simon, uses his sword too much.

Judas Iscariot, betrays Jesus

How many friends do you have? Do they think the same way you do? Would any of them cheat you? or doubt you? or even grass you up?

What is a miracle?

Jesus has done many miracles although we don’t know them all. In the bible there are three stories about Jesus raising people from the dead, six about him driving the devil out of people, eight about things like changing water to wine and feeding 5000 people and fifteen about him healing people.

Do miracles happen today?

Have you ever seen a miracle? Does it take someone special? Could you do it yourself?

Why did Jesus die?

We know that Jesus died, we know that crucifiction is a horrible way to die.

Did you know? Roman’s used crucifiction to bring shame on Jewish people. It was used mainly for criminals and freedom fighters. They would have no clothes on to show their shame and it was also thought that you would be cursed if you died hanging from a tree. When Jesus died, many people believed that he was making up for all the wrong things we have done. Many hundreds of years before the Jews had escaped from Egypt where they were held as slaves. An angel of death passed over all the houses that had lamb’s blood around the door. Christians today believe that Jesus died, like the lambs, instead of us for all the wrong things that we have done.

The end of the story? I don’t think so. Three days after Jesus died, he was seen by many people alive and they said he had come back from the dead. Christians believe that if he hadn’t then there would be no life after death. So Jesus beat the devil and came back to life, now he lives with God in heaven.

But who helps us now he’s gone? Jesus left a part of himself behind, the Holy spirit. Also there are people you can ask, parents, teachers and ministers. Anyone you think you can trust.
