EBBSFLEET COVENANT OF CHURCHES

There is a long history of friendship and joint working between the Anglican, United Reformed, Methodist and Roman Catholic Churches in the area of The Hill and Old Northfleet, Kent.

This growth in united working came to fulfilment in 1991 when it was decided that the time was ripe to take a major step forward in ecumenical partnership by the signing of a formal Covenant to share together in all ways possible in worship, church life, mission and ministry.

In 1997 agreement was reached that the Covenant should be extended to include the Anglican and Methodist Churches in Swanscombe. It was also agreed that the title of the Covenant Body should be changed to "The Ebbsfleet Covenant of Churches" to reflect the wider area and the significance of the proposed developments identified with "Ebbsfleet".

The Covenant has been recognised as a formal Local Ecumenical Partnership by Churches Together in Kent

The constituent Churches are St Peter & St Paul Anglican Church, Swanscombe - St Botolph's Anglican Church, Northfleet - Swanscombe Methodist Church - Our Lady's Roman Catholic Church (with St Clement's Church) - United Reformed Church, Northfleet

The revised Covenant Document was signed by the Minister of each Church at a Special Service in May 1997.

The Churches meet for a United Service each month. This is normally on the second Sunday of the month commencing at 6.30 p.m. The venue alternates between the Churches. The specially written Covenant Prayer is used on these occasions and at all times when the Churches meet together in prayer.
